Integrity and transparency

The UK concrete industry sources and manufactures products responsibly, ethically and with integrity, ensuring the people who extract minerals, make products and transport them are treated fairly and the environment is treated with respect.

The local nature of concrete production, and the strong governance of the UK supply chain, has resulted in industry gaining a high level of accreditation to what is currently the optimum benchmark for responsible sourcing.

Over 90 per cent of UK concrete is certified as ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’ by the ‘BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products’ framework.

The UK concrete sector is helping its customers – developers, housebuilders and major infrastructure operators – to drive greater awareness of supply chain transparency. Using locally sourced materials also helps to ensure compliance with responsible sourcing standards and allows for a well-defined network with transparency over fair and ethical labour practices.

The concrete industry is also a responsible landowner, working closely with statutory bodies including Natural England, Natural Resources Wales, Scottish Natural Heritage and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs in Northern Ireland and non-government organisations such as the RSPB and the Wildlife Trusts to enhance biodiversity and deliver thriving habitats in existing and restored quarries across the UK.
